Utah Easter Sugar Cookies


3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 8oz package cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp almond extract
1 egg
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
3/4 cup butter, room temperature
3-4 tbsp milk
2-3 drops food coloring, your choice color


1. Preheat oven to 375°F
2. Cookie dough: Cream butter, cream cheese, both sugars, almond extract and egg in a bowl or mixer until fluffy
3. Combine dry ingredients flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl then add to creamed mixture and stir until dough forms
4. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick
5. Cut with easter shaped cookie cutters and bake for 10-12 minutes
6. Frosting: In a bowl or mixer, cream butter until it becomes light and smooth. Add salt, food coloring, and 2 tbsp of milk
7. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing on low.
8. Frost onto cooled cookies with spatula
