O-Town Kitchen addresses both the problem of growing homeless families in Utah and food waste by translating the value of food waste into income for displaced families. We work with homeless parents from the YCC Family Crisis shelter to help us make the most unique flavors of jam you will ever see. As often as we can we take in excess produce from the community that was destined for the trash and we use it to make our products. The moms who work with us are learning cooking, production, packaging, branding, marketing, and interpersonal skills, plus being able to make things is a boost to their confidence. These skills help them transition into more other jobs.
